Four Bequeathals of Pride (Proverbs)

The Bible tells us that pride is one thing that God hates (Prov. 6:16-17; 8:13). The Book of Proverbs tells us that when pride comes, it brings with it and leaves behind at least 4 things: 1. SHAME : "When pride comes, then comes shame; but with the humble is wisdom." (Pro 11:2 NKJ) 2. STRIFE : "By pride comes nothing but strife, but with the well-advised is wisdom." (Pro 13:10 NKJ) 3. DESTRUCTION : "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." (Pro 16:18 NKJ) 4. DEBASEMENT : "A man's pride will bring him low, but the humble in spirit will retain honor." (Pro 29:23 NKJ) SO WHAT TO DO? "Then He [Jesus] said to them all, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or l...

The River of Life - Poem

I went to the River of Life, Dirty as I was, And, I asked "What is this That sparkles like crystal And flows so peacefully?" They told me, "It's the River of Life, Go bath in it and you shall also be As it is, Sparkling as crystal, Full of peace!" I went into the River of Life, Dirty as I was; I felt bad I might make it dirty, For so beautiful it was, So full of grace and sanctity. I walked into the River of Life, It took all my dirt and fully cleansed me; And there it was, Sparkling as crystal, Full of peace! The River of Life is endless, It needs not run into any stagnant sea; My sinful dirt has all been taken, All forgotten, all forgiven: Now, to be no longer what I ever used to be; Now, to be forever, what I never used to be! ..... I treasure Your forgiveness more than anything in life, For Lord, the price You paid to buy it for me was Your very life. The most sparkling gem in the world is dirt before Your shining face That smiles at me with loving favor ind...

How Can Jesus Be Fully God and Fully Man At the Same Time?

Answer 1: A contradiction can be defined in the terms "A=not-A"; a non-contradiction, in the terms "A≠not-A". The statements "Jesus is fully God" and "Jesus is fully man" don't involve such a contradiction, i.e, they don't say "Jesus is fully God," and "Jesus is not fully God" at the same time. Christian theology doesn't claim to say that Jesus is not God when it says Jesus is Man; likewise, it doesn't clam to say that Jesus is not man when it says that Jesus is God. Answer 2: The divinity of Christ is eternal and immutable; therefore, in the Incarnation He was fully God. He was not created; He pre-existed. He was not born out of a man-woman relationship; but, was born of a Virgin; because He incarnated, He didn't come into being - there was not when He didn't exist. In the Incarnation, God partook of human nature; He could do that because He created the world and so the world belonged to Him and He ...

Emotional Wisdom and Justice

There is also something called emotional wisdom, when you shut your heart to feelings that attempt to gain unlawful entry into it. There is something called emotional justice, when you are fair in the allocation of your emotions to things. For instance, the emotions that a man must have for his wife cannot be directed or allocated, not even an ounce of it, to any other woman. Similarly, the emotions that rightly belong to a woman’s kids cannot be allocated to anyone else. This doesn’t mean that we don’t have love for others; but, love is not lawless. Supremely, the emotions that we must have for God are exclusive and cannot be had for anyone else – they belong supremely to God: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind”(Lk.10:27). The Bible provides some instances of the application of this truth. 1. In Genesis 21:12, God tells Abraham to not be in grief because of Ishmael and Hagar, but to send them away as Sar...

The Case for the Real Jesus - Review and Comments

I recently read an excellent book called The Case For the Real Jesus by Lee Strobel. The book has 309 pages including the index. The author is said to have been the award-winning legal editor of the Chicago Tribune and a spiritual skeptic until 1981. In this book, the author tries to find answers for 6 modern challenges to the case for the real Jesus. He attempts to resolve each by consulting eminent scholars and authorities on the particular field where the challenge is posed, and each time he startles us with information and logic that should burst propaganda balloons and send them fizzing through the air. Two of the challenges are as follows: "Scholars are uncovering a radically different Jesus in ancient documents just as credible as the Four Gospels." [Answer: The challenge is faulty because the so called ancient documents turn out to be quite later writings influenced by Gnosticism], "The Bible's portrait of Jesus can't be trusted because the Church tamper...

Violence

“God is Love,” the Bible tells us, and His soul is absolutely aversive to violence (IJn.4:8; Ps.11:5). We are told that He once destroyed the entire world by the Flood when He saw that the earth was filled with violence (Gen.6:11,13). “But, isn’t that also an act of violence?” someone may ask, “When God punishes people, throws them into hell fire? And, what about the violence that God commanded in the Law of Moses to stone people to death, to destroy the Canaanites? How can we say that God hates violence, then?” At the very beginning, we must make a distinction between divine violence and sinful violence. To say that God is non-violent is to deny the obvious. God’s violence is evident in the Scripture; however, His violence is true to His own holy and righteous nature. His violence is the violence of justice and salvation. The violence of sin, on the other hand, is the violence of injustice, evil, and destruction. It is man’s active expression of His estrangement and separation from Go...
